On May 1, 2023, Belinda Archibong, assistant professor of economics, was named a faculty research fellow by the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) following a rigorous and competitive selection process. Fellows must be nominated to be considered for their roles, and the directors of the organization’s 20 research programs recommend appointments to the NBER president after consulting with steering committees made up of leading scholars. Professor Archibong’s primary areas of research include development economics, political economy, economic history, and environmental economics with an African regional focus. She will join a network of over 1,700 affiliated NBER scholars who work to uphold the bureau’s mission of conducting and disseminating nonpartisan economic research.
